Before the Catch captures the moment of intention — just before the men enter the water to fish. The emu footprints mark this threshold, representing both the decision to step into salt water and the guidance of Garrdi (Emu) as a totem for the eastern people of Guuranda (Yorke Peninsula).

Layered patterns move across the surface to reflect large fishing nets, the sand of saltwater Country, and the constant motion of water that surrounds Guuranda.
