About the Project
“Towards Lartelare” is a 3x15 metre mural situated on the opposite façade of the Yitpi Yartapuultiku Cultural Centre. It celebrates Lartelare, a significant Kaurna birth site by the Port River.
The design features flowing water motifs, native plant patterns, and soft transitions of colour that reflect life, strength, and connection to place. Through its visual language, the mural pays tribute to the stories of women, birth, and the cycles of renewal that continue to sustain Kaurna Country.
Created through cultural consultation with Kaurna Elders and community, the work was produced in partnership with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, Ashley Halliday Architects, and Sarah Constructions.
From the Artist — Daen Sansbury-Smith (Adjadura Studio)
“Towards Lartelare” is about the life-giving energy of water and the importance of honouring where we come from.
The mural draws on the spirit of the Port River — its movement, its strength, and its deep cultural significance as a site of renewal and story. I wanted the design to feel fluid and alive, shifting with the light and reflecting how culture flows continuously through time.
Together with “Towards Karta,” this work creates a visual dialogue between movement and birth, past and future, land and water.
